7 Beauty Favourites I Am Bringing Into 2017

Happy New Year to my readers, I hope this year brings you health, happiness and lots of success.  Our New Year’s Eve was chilled and quiet (just the way we like it these days).  We had a little party with the kids early in the evening, then once they were in bed it was pjs on, glass of red poured and the fight to stay awake to see the midnight chimes before crashing to sleep.

This post is pretty much ‘My favourite items of 2016’ as these are the products I have been reaching for over and over again this past year but as it is now 2017 lets see what I am bringing into the New Year with me….in no particular order:

Darphin Hydraskin Light Gel Cream

I am obsessed with the entire Darphin brand to be honest, I have used their products for over 10 years and my skin adores their range.  I absolutely love the Intral line which are beautiful skin calming products aimed at those with sensitive, acne or rosacea prone skin.  I am bringing that entire line into 2017 with me as it really is my go to, but I am also bringing this fantastic everyday moisturiser.  Its so light yet so hydrating on my dry skin, I use this every morning and I really like the way my foundation looks over it.  As its a light moisturiser it absorbs into the skin really quickly (so perfect when you are in a rush which is pretty much us every morning), and it gives my skin a great pick-me-up which lasts the day.  I recently ran out of this product and it was a good month or so before I was able to pick up a new one, in that time I really noticed how much duller the appearance of my skin was without it.  It is now my holy grail everyday moisturiser and one I can highly recommend.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Surreal Light Edit Palette

Now there is a title and a half but if you read my review on this product from November then you will know how much I loved the palette.  I still love it, I still use it every single day and it has to be my favourite new beauty purchase of 2016.  I still can’t believe this was my first product by the brand Hourglass but it certainly won’t be my last.  The palette is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the ‘instagrammable-photographic-dream marble effect’ outside.  Its a great size too, perfect for the dressing table, compact enough for travel, sturdy enough for an everyday handbag, with a decent size mirror and 5 beautifully swirling product pans inside.  You get 1 finishing powder, 2 blushers, 1 bronzer and 1 highlighter.  In true Hourglass form they are all subtly alluring on the skin giving a natural, radiance and inner glow.  All 5 products are limited edition and I am really hoping they make the bronzer part of their core collection because it is now my Holy Grail bronzer.  I love everything about this palette and then some, it is just a dream to use.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I got this in the Too Faced Holiday Set ‘Christmas In New York – The Chocolate Shop‘.  I had already tried the waterproof version of the mascara having received it in a Glossybox earlier in the year, and when I tried that I didn’t really see what all the hype was about, but then I’m not really a big fan of waterproof mascaras in general.  When I saw the regular version I was keen to see if it changed my opinion and Oh Boy did it?!  How I love this formula.  I have been looking for a good mascara for years, I happily try new ones all the time, especially ones you receive with bonus sets, beauty boxes and gifts.  Some have been hits (Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara, Revlon Volume + Length, Givenchy Noir Couture)  and some have been misses (Diorshow Blackout, Benefit They’re Real and Maybelline Falsies) but this one I understand all the hype now.  I think mascara’s really depend on how you like your lashes to look and for what occasion, and also how the mascara works with the lashes you already have.  My lashes are naturally quite long but not very full, however most ‘full lash’ mascaras leave them clumpy.  I like my mascara in a black shade, one that extends my lashes a little, and one that gives me some fullness without clumping, oh and definitely no flaking.  This ticks all the boxes and I love the look!  Its still natural but you could easily go back with another coat for what I would call an evening look.  No flakiness what so ever, no panda eyes and no smudging.  I’m not quite sure that it is better than sex but it is a bloomin good mascara.

Too Faced Melted Long Wear Lipstick in Chocolate Milkshake

This is another Too Faced product and another from their holiday set ‘Christmas in New York – The Chocolate Shop‘ and this one was a bit of a surprise.  It was actually one of the last products I tried from the set but it has quickly become my favourite along with the mascara.  Firstly it is scented with chocolate which makes it hard not to love, I feel like I am getting a bit of a chocolate fix the minute I apply this to my lips.  The colour is just beautiful, the shade is of course the aptly named Chocolate Milkshake and I really like how it looks on me.  I love brown based lip colours and this is perfect for an everyday look, it suits my cool skin tone without looking to rich, pale or heavy.  Its also incredibly moisturising and lasts really well.  The tube makes it easy to squeeze the product out onto the fixed applicator and the applicator is really easy to apply on the lips.  I feel like my lipstick is always spot on whenever I apply this, it almost stains the lips but in a good way and the application is almost like you are applying a lip balm.  I wasn’t really expecting much from this product to be honest, but now I find myself reaching for it so much.  Its the one that I pop in my handbag everyday as its easy to touch up on the go even with no mirror.  I am definitely going to purchase other shades from this range because I love the formula, easy application, travel friendly and long lasting wear so much.  So expect a ‘Too Faced Melted Lipstick Haul’ coming your way in 2017.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Ashton

Another lip product and this one is the much hyped Liquid Lipstick by Anastasia Beverly Hills.  I did a full review on this product in this shade Ashton and the shade Kathryn, both beautiful names and beautiful shades.  I was never a big liquid lipstick fan and I am still not a total convert however this shade is probably my favourite lipstick shade ever so it is definitely with me in 2017.  It’s described as a yellow toned brown and I just love the way it looks on my skin, I feel it really warms my complexion.  I am still getting used to the liquid lipstick and I have found the best way to apply it is to apply it over a lip gloss (I know that’s defeating the purpose of a liquid lipstick but it works for me).  I apply a neutral lipgloss, then dab about 3 spots of this colour along my bottom lip and one on my top lip then quickly with my finger smudge it all together and I love the look and it’s really long lasting.  My lips are naturally super dry and I find liquid lipsticks just too matte and drying for me causing cracks and flakes to appear, however because I love this beautiful shade so much I found my alternative way of wearing it.  And that’s what I love about makeup, making it work for you and discarding the rules.

Armani Silk Luminous Foundation

I have raved about this foundation for some time, it is still my holy grail and still my most reached for foundation ever.  The texture, the natural finish, the way it blends, the glowing look it gives, the way it gently lies on the skin, the way it photographs, its all just beautiful.  Its a little pricey but it is Armani, but regardless of the brand this foundation is a brilliant product.  For dry, maturing skin like mine, I feel it leaves me looking that teeny bit more youthful without caking or settling into fine lines.  Foundations can give very different results on different people but I do feel that this one does work for a wide range of different skin types, tones and ages.  I wear shade 4 and its a great match for my beige/cool toned skin.

The Beauty Blender

This little pink or black sponge changed the way my foundation looked on my skin.  It gives a flawless finish, blends everything together and I could honestly not be without it.  I have used this every day for quite a few years however for some reason I did stop using the Beauty Blender over the Summer.  I went back to brushes or just used my fingers and it was only when I recently purchased a couple of new Beauty Blenders and I returned them to my everyday routine did I realise what a difference they really do make.  You use the sponge damp (not soaking wet, I like to have a water spray I spritz on it in a morning to dampen it).  Then press and bounce it onto the skin with your foundation, not too firmly but not too soft, and you will see just how awesome this little product is.  I have tried some of the cheaper alternatives to the Beauty Blender, I think the Real Techniques sponge is a great dupe but there is something within this particular sponge that makes it that something extra special.  I clean mine with either the beauty blender soap or baby shampoo and I replace mine about every 3 months.

So there you have them in their glory my favourite 7 I am bringing into 2017.  I could have easily chosen 17 products but I thought that would have been the longest blog post ever so I trimmed it down to my favourite 7 and I love each and every one of them.  Happy 2017!
