It may almost be the August Bank Holiday Weekend (which more often than not equals rain) but it is still Summer and there’s still plenty of time for a Sunny Getaway to clear blue skies, sun-drenched beaches and cocktails at sunset. We are heading to the land of Flamenco, Hola’s and Tapas very soon and here are some of the essential products that will be on the plane with me. In the Summer my skincare does change a little to a more lighter, fresher and soothing formula so that the products will work with the heat of the Summer Sun. There are plenty more products coming along on holiday with me (I am a Beauty Blogger after all) but these are my 7 Late Summer Getaway Skincare Essentials and why they are receiving the love from me that they are…
Carmex Lip Balm
Lip Balms are an essential part of my daily skincare and have been for as long as I can remember, and Carmex is a brand I come back to again and again, infact I think most of my family use Carmex. I remember years ago when it was difficult to find in the UK and we used to stock pile it on family trips to the USA, we all used to bring home enough little Carmex Lip pots we could have opened a little Carmex Stall. Then Carmex evolved into the chap-stick type packaging and again we used to stock pile that like crazy. Luckily these days Carmex is readily available in the UK and for me its a trusted and faithful lip product. Its helped to get me through countless cold-sores over the years, helped to keep my lips moisturised and hydrated and now it has an added twist of lime to the product. Its smells amazing, its perfectly size, its mess free and just a simple, affordable product. It also has an SPF 15 so adds protection for the Summer months, perfect for the handbag, perfect for the beach.
Frezyderm Face Sun Screen
It goes without saying that Sunscreen is an essential part of Summer Skincare and this new-to-me brand is what I am currently reaching for and what’s joining me on the plane to Spain. Firstly the packaging…I love it! The test-tube style slimline packaging with top pump makes it feel light and travel friendly and with it being 50ml its hand-luggage-airport-friendly too. With an SPF of 50 (UVB-UVA-VIS-IR), this water resistant, paraben-free Frezyderm Face Sunscreen is quite unique in formula. Its not a thick cream, its more of a gel/serum texture that feels incredibly smooth and soft on the skin, it instantly absorbs without leaving any greasy or sticky residue and has a velvet-matifying feel. There is also a colour-version which I guess is similar to a tinted moisturiser, my favourite is the non-colour version though but both offer Stem Cell DNA protection.
Biotherm Sun Screen
This light moisturising sun spray from the French Skin Care Company Biotherm is a great one for the whole family. We normally go for the SPF 30 and reapply as needed throughout the day. I love Sunscreen spray bottle’s because I find them alot easier to apply on small children than creams, the kids seem to find them abit of a novelty too so they don’t mind me reapplying on the beach whilst they play in the sand or as they are running off to jump in the sea. The Biotherm Sunscreen is both UVA and UVB protective and is water resistant for about 40 minutes, its also added with Sun, Sea and Wind technology. The bottle is light enough that is doesn’t weigh the Beach Bag down and the fine milky texture feels lovely on the skin . I know people can be abit concerned with Spray Bottles with children as it is easier to miss bits of skin when applying, so for delicate areas such as the face and ears I often spray the product into my hand first then apply onto the skin. I also apply Sunscreen rather generously too and we have found this product to offer great protection even in the hottest heat and humidity. A great on-the-go Sunscreen for us.
Clarins After Sun Moisturizer
A bit of a splurge for an After Sun at £22.00 but this is one that’s abit of a Holiday treat (especially if you are passing through Duty Free). This Clarins After Sun Ultra-Hydrating Moisturizer smells amazing (that Summer Holiday kind of smell), and it seems to add a lovely light glow to the skin. I find it to be incredibly hydrating on my dry skin and it claims to prolong a tan (I will hopefully be testing that part out very soon). The cream is soothing without being heavily greasy and it absorbs easily into the skin. I have read reviews about this preventing peeling and some people seem to either love or hate the smell. For me I think its a great product and abit of a treat to smother yourself in after a day at the beach and I can’t wait to do just that very soon.
Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water
I received a sample of this a while ago and instantly fell in love with the soothing, calming and cooling effect this seems to offer the skin and now I am on my third full-sized bottle. I find it to be great at thoroughly cleaning the face and removing makeup, including mascara, yet it appears gentle enough as not to cause any irritation or breakouts. I use this daily to cleanse my face – in the morning I use just this before applying my daily serum and moisturiser, in the evening I like to use this along with Darphin’s Intral Cleansing Milk to ensure all makeup including any waterproof mascara is thoroughly cleaned off my skin and my skin is left feeling refreshed and soothed. At £15.00 its not the cheapest of Micellar Waters but I have fallen for it and find it hard to reach for others now. I love the tall bottle shape and the fact that it comes with the pump which saves spillages or product wastage. This product contains organic grape water and chamomile and its definitely helped to soothe my skin and calm any rawness and redness down that I often suffer with. A lovely gentle product that works so well for the Summer Skin.
Dr PawPaw Original Balm
I received this in May’s Glossybox and it hasn’t left my handbag since. Years ago I always used to carry Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour cream on me, especially for holidays but then for some reason I stopped. This is a budget friendlier version and its just so handy for so many things. For nails and cuticles, smoothing brows, adding a glow to the cheekbones, dry patches, heels, lips, sunburn, insect bites, minor skin abrasions, the list goes on. At 25ml this is such a handbag friendly size and now I rarely leave the house without it. Such a fantastic multi-use product at a budget friendly price, abit of a handbag must have for me.
Clarins Eau Dynamisante
Another Clarins favourite and even though its not quite Skincare, it is applied to the Skin and is a Summer essential for me so I felt it right to include it with my other Getaway products. Many people have their ‘Summer Scent’, and fragrance is such a personal preference, however I love this product because it does seem to help keep the mosquitoes at bay. I am one of those people that unfortunately feels like a Mosquito Meal when I am abroad in the Summer and since I have been wearing this perfume I have noticed quite a substantial difference. I still get the odd bite but nowhere near as much as I do when I don’t wear the perfume. Whats more and most importantly, I love the fresh scent – light enough for everyday, subtle enough not to over-power and the fragrance reminds me of Summer Beach Getaways so there’s abit of a nostalgia to it too. Definitely worth a spritz as you are passing through Duty Free, I did a full blog post on this perfume here and the Limited Edition set from Clarins is not only delightfully pretty in packaging it also includes a fab travel pouch and travel/handbag spray (on photo above) which is what I will be adding to my hand luggage for our Summer Holiday.
A plane heading to Sunnier Skies and Sun-drenched beaches? I am so ready for you….
