A Liquid Lipstick with moisture? The feeling of a lip balm with the colour and pigmentation of a lipstick?
Step forward the Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lip which I have in the shade Juicy Date.
If you are regular reader of my blog then you’ll probably know that liquid lipsticks are not really a product I tend to love. I naturally have quite dry lips so will gravitate to a more hydrating and creamy regular style lipstick on a daily basis. However the Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lips are anything but drying and are not your regular liquid lipstick either. I was intrigued and here’s why…..
TEXTURE
When I think of a liquid lipstick I tend to think of a product that applies quite creamy before settling down to more of a matte finish. For me that then usually ends up as a product that wears off in a strange way, that dries my lips out and can even sometimes look a bit cracked on my lips throughout the day. For the Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lips all that goes right out of the window.
This actually feels a bit more like a gloss on application, its that same moisturising, smooth and light-creamy feeling. It feels very nourishing and actually kind of comforting on the lips. It is so smooth and soft and my lips literally soak this product up like a dream.
Described on the Bobbi Brown website as ‘created with a super-fruit blend featuring cranberry, blueberry and raspberry extracts. This emollient-rich, full-coverage formula glides on with pure colour pigments and offers nourishing comfort and moisture—both instantly and over time’. And I think all that is very true.
It doesn’t weigh down or dry out the lips, it lasts really well on my lips and wears down slowly. It gives a ‘lipstick look’ but with a lovely sheen finish. Its definitely not matte, but neither high gloss either. There’s a slight gloss there but more of a sheen-gloss. The product doesn’t feel sticky, gloopy or tacky on the lips, instead it feels very comfortable and moisturising. Almost like adding a lip balm to your lips type of feeling.
It really does feel like the best of both worlds. The look of a liquid lipstick combined with the comfortable feeling of a balm and the plumped-up sheen of a gloss. I absolutely love it!
APPLICATION
The shape of the wand makes application very quick, smooth and easy. You can use the tip of the wand for a more even look around the edges. But the middle part easily sweeps across the lips adding the lip product in one quick swoop. The product has high pigmentation without being too much and it applied evenly too, which I really love about this.
The distinct shape of the wand feels almost like a hug to the lips, its vertical one side and a slightly curved diagonal on the other. All this makes the application perfectly fitting for your lips.
Paraben-free, phthalate-free, sulfite-free, talc-free, mineral oil-free, gluten-free.
JUICY DATE SHADE
I really love this shade, its a really easy to wear, great everyday type of colour and one that goes with many make up looks. Equally its one you could wear by itself to add a pop of colour to your complexion.
Described as a “pinkish brown” which is my kind of neutral. I find this has an ever so slight hint of a coral in it too. Its more warm toned and a nice balance between a brown and pink. I’d say a more dusky pink tone in terms of pink rather than a baby, barbie or bright pink. It’s a shade that will work very easily for all age ranges too and one I can see being suited to most, if not all skin tones.
COMPARABLE TO….
To compare the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip in Juicy Date shade to others I would say that Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk and Charlotte Tilbury’s In Love With Olivia are pretty close comparisons. I would say Pillow Talk leans a little more pink than Bobbi Brown’s Juicy Date. It is however very very similar in shade to Charlotte Tilbury’s In Love With Olivia which is a shade I love and use a lot (almost used up a whole lipstick of). So if you are a fan of either of those shades, especially In Love With Olivia, then I highly recommend Bobbi Brown’s Juicy Date for a change in texture.
OVERALL
I am in love love love with the Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lip. I think in particular these would be amazing in the Summer in a bright coral – perfect for a day-to-night beach-to-bar/holiday (once we can again). Equally because they are so soft, comfortable and hydrating to wear, these are wonderful for all year round. And as we are still in the throws of the cold Winter months, its often nice to have a lipstick that has a balm feel to it.
I love how long lasting it is too. A good 5 hours on myself and a retouch is super quick and simple.
I feel I do need to put out a warning though….because if you purchase one of these Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lips I don’t think you will be able to stop at just one! I’m already trying to decide which shade to pick up next, they are so easy and lightweight to wear, super easy to pop in a handbag or clutch. Just a fab all-round product that I’m sure you will be seeing a lot more of from me.
PRICE AND WHERE TO BUY
