If you’re a regular reader of my blog you will know that I am a lot more about the ‘natural makeup look’ than I am anything too crazy. Particularly in a morning I am all about a super quick and easy makeup look that a). makes me look half human, b). covers as many imperfections as makeup possible can, but c). is still very natural looking. I don’t like to look like I am wearing lots of makeup, instead I prefer to enhance areas and allow my skin to feel like it can still breathe. I am certainly no ‘false eyelashes everyday-kind-of-girl’ (but hats off to those that are, how do you do it?!).
Again, if you are a regular reader of houseofpaperdoll.com you will know how much I love Charlotte Tilbury makeup products (her skincare I have to say I’m not as crazy about) but her makeup line I am pretty much obsessed with, and for good reason too. One product I purchased a while ago, tried, then put away only to come back to it months later and fall completely in love with is the ‘Instant Look in a Palette‘.
There are currently three ‘Instant Look in a Palette‘ versions in the Charlotte Tilbury range –
I have the Natural Beauty Instant Look in a Palette and I have been reaching for this palette every single day throughout Winter for so many reasons and here’s why…
As the name suggest…it is an Instant Look in a Palette – meaning you can create your eye and face look from one single palette, genius! The palette includes 7 products all of which are numbered for the ease of application.
All these neutral shades compliment each other to perfection. The palette is a great size, ideal for travelling as its very compact and light, but it feels sturdy in the hand when applying the products. The mirror also gets top marks for being sturdy and a really decent size. I find the products in the pan easy to use, I know some people have mentioned fall out but I really haven’t found that with mine, the colours haven’t mixed together like some palettes can and I find getting my brush into each pan no problem, even with the blusher shades (although I do wish they were slightly bigger).
Due to the design of the palette, the application process in a morning is so quick. The products are numbered to help but I have my own quick little system and way of applying on my face. After using my IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with a little MAC Cosmetics Face Powder, I apply the bronzer from the palette to contour slightly under my cheekbones, then I apply the ‘Swish’ blusher colour along my cheek bones and the ‘Pop’ cheek shade to the apples of my cheeks. On my eyes I apply the number 1 (Brighten) shade all over my lids to my crease, I then apply number 2 (Enhance) over the middle of my lids and in the inner corner of my eyes and lastly I blend number 3 (Smoke) along my crease and buff. Finally I apply the highlighter in a ‘C shape’ around my outer eye/top cheekbone area.
The result is enhanced and natural in a really polished way, with a subtle glow. The products do wear off a little as the day goes on, especially the blushers for me, and I’m not sure the eyeshadows will show up well on lots of skin tones, particularly olive skin tones, but for fair skinned or deeper skinned girls I think this palette will work well. Also I think its a great palette for all ages.
Each product is buttery and pigmented and blends well, especially the blushers, I sometimes just get my blusher brush and mix them together and apply straight to the cheeks. I love the colour they produce together, it just gives such a lovely natural healthy glow to the cheeks. The products are also buildable and instantly wearable. Bear in mind this palette is the ‘Natural Beauty’ look so I wouldn’t be expecting anything too dramatic from it, if you like your makeup looking more intense this palette wouldn’t really be for you but the Seductive Beauty Palette might work better. For me this Natural Beauty Palette is a perfect ‘everyday’ look for the office, school run, and out and about – you can easily add more product on top or use the deeper eye shade more for a slightly more enhanced look to transition to evening.
This is a great way of decluttering your makeup bag and replacing lots of different products with just one that covers several jobs and that delivers to provide flattering results. And thats another reason I love this palette….I don’t need lots of different products. For a day to day makeup look I use my Foundation (IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream), Powder, Eyeliner, Mascara, Lipstick and this palette – my makeup bag is pretty sparse and I like it that way. At £45.00 I do think this a good value for money considering the products you get. As mentioned I have been using mine daily for the past 3 months and I have barely made a dent in any of the shades, so I can see this lasting a very long time. Super convenient, elegant to look at and a firm favourite for me. I am keen to try the Seductive Beauty Palette now for more of an evening look.
