As a huge fan of her brand and her original Legendary Lashes Mascara I was keen to see how this recently improved formula would compare.
Legendary Lashes – The Original
What I loved about it
The ‘Legendary Lashes Original Mascara’ has been my go-to everyday mascara since last Summer. I love how full and lengthening this mascara is. Its one of those ‘quick grab’ mascaras you know will perform well. A great choice day in day out, that has never irritated my sensitive eyes and has been a staple of my makeup bag for so long. I find the effect to be nothing crazy dramatic, nor one that’s barely noticeable, instead for me its been that ideal in between that gives your lashes some oomph, whilst still looking pretty natural.
What I didn’t love so much about the Original Mascara
The biggest draw back I have found with the original formula was that after a while of wearing it often smudges onto my eye socket line. I have small deep-set eyes and find that this a regular annoyance of having this type of shaped eye. It wasn’t just this mascara that smudges in the same place for me. Over the years I’ve tried Lancome ones, Dior ones, Maybelline, Benefit….you name it, and many end up transferring onto my skin. One way around it has been to wear a waterproof mascara over the top to seal the product better and this has certainly helped an awful lot. I still automatically do a quick check for any eye smudging in the mirror throughout the day, but my one-coat of waterproof mascara to seal has certainly worked well. I did love the effect of the Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes (Original) Mascara so much it wasn’t a big deal for me to do this.
Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2
However all this was hopefully about to change when Charlotte Tilbury launched Legendary Lashes Volume 2. I was very grateful and lucky to be at the launch of the Hollywood Flawless Filter (which I have a Blog post on here) when Charlotte spoke and gave us a sneak peak of this new and improved Legendary Lashes Volume 2. As soon as she mentioned the ‘no smudging’ formula for this new mascara I was sold! I knew this could be a serious contender for my Holy Grail mascara. I remember Charlotte saying this new mascara should last longer, be more hard-wearing in humidity and it would have over 500% more volume, all of this sounds so impressive…..so after putting the new Mascara to the test how does it compare?

Where the original formula may have needed a few tweaks, this new version seems to have done just that and got it all addressed. It instantly provides lengthening and volume without clumping, the wand applicator seems to grab, thicken and separate each lash whilst providing a push-up effect to the lashes which I love. It produces that sought-after ‘fluttery’ lashes effect without looking too fake. It also didn’t flake onto the skin either and was far more long-lasting than the original formula. And the smudging? All gone!
I put this mascara to the test when I wore it all day in Spain recently and it was a hot, humid day, and there was no smudging whats-so-ever, even on the lower lash. In the past I have been using two mascaras to create the effect of this one ‘Volume 2 Mascara’ so it gets top marks from me for sure. There is no irritation, just amplified longer lashes that I found easy to remove with a good eye make up remover (I love Sephora’s own branded one).
Without question it’s the new Legendary Lashes Volume 2, hands down the Volume 2 is the winner for me. I think it takes a few days to find your own way to apply it for your desired look, plus it also depends on what your lashes are like naturally too. I like to apply about two layers for everyday, and work the wand from the inside of the lashes outwards, wobbling the brush from side to side a little and pushing the lashes up slightly at the same time. Once you do find your own technique then its a match made in heaven. Don’t get me wrong the original Legendary Lashes was a good mascara but this new Legendary Lashes Volume 2 is a great mascara and it’s now my new everyday favourite for sure.
