Too Faced Christmas In New York House of Paper Doll

When it comes to Christmas gift set packaging Too Faced must have come up with the most adorable packaging out there.  The Too Faced Christmas in New York Gift Set is fun, festive and dreamy all in one – perfect for the young, young at heart and appreciator of girlie packaging full of festive New Yorkness everywhere.

The minute I saw this gift set in Sephora Hauls on Youtube the item was making its way to me, I fell in love with the packaging (I am a sucker for pretty packaging) and its not hard to see why.  The gift set is available in the UK in a Macaroon Shop version from Debenhams which is slightly smaller and cheaper, this one however is the (USA) gift set and its the Chocolate Shop, so as if the packaging wasn’t enough to get a girl excited the product also smells of chocolate!  I am in Christmas Heaven!

When I first received this from Sephora, there were quite a few ooohs, aaahs and squeals as I lifted the large pink box (which itself is a keeper, not quite sure what for yet but I ain’t throwing this in the recycling bin that’s for sure).  The outer packaging is all girlie, pink and snowy with the New York Skyline and it is just beautiful.  I love it.  Then comes the really fun part…lifting the lid to reveal the most impressive packaging I have seen by any brand in a long time, it just couldn’t get anymore New York festive.

Inside the box unfolds to reveal the most divine scene, with a lady (armed with her Sephora bag) and gentleman strolling 5th Avenue with their adorable puppy and in the Patisserie shop window scene are 3 travel sized Too Faced Products – Shadow Insurance Eye Primer (which I have never tried but have heard great things about), the cult status and Blogger favourite ‘Better Than Sex’ Mascara and Melted Chocolate Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (which of course smells of Chocolate and is a beautiful honey brown shade on the lips).

But that’s not all….the palette itself lifts out as a separate item from the packaging and even though its a large palette it is slim and sleek enough to fit inside a large makeup bag.  The palette opens up to reveal a shiny Christmas treat and array of colours and of course that fragrance of Chocolate.  Too Faced are known for their scented palettes and it may or may not be your thing but it would be hard to resist the sweet scent of chocolate which thankfully isn’t overpowering or off-putting when applying makeup from the palette, but it did make me hungry for a chocolate bar however.

The palette contains 21 eyeshadows in total, a Highlighter, Bronzer and Blusher so by no mean feat this is one impressive set.  The shadows are a mixtures of mattes, shimmers and metallics with pops of colour amongst nudes and neutrals which gives something for everyone and a fantastic palette to play with for a huge range of different eye looks for many occasions, and especially perfect for the party season.

Each item is named with a sweet candy/chocolate shop in mind and although I have read quite a few mixed reviews on the quality of the actual shades themselves (in particular the mattes which I do agree with) I have to say that on me the majority of the shadows seem to show up pretty well and some of the metallics are to die for.  I also really like the highlighter (Inner Light) and bronzer (Chocolate Soleill) the latter I have been wearing as a bronzer/blush and I really love it.  The blusher (Chocolate Covered Strawberry) is very pink so on a pale skinned girl like me a pretty light hand is defiantly the way to go.

So here comes the Eye Shadow Swatches, I have tried to group them as they are laid out within the palette to best to show comparisons.

My thoughts:  All in all this is a really impressive Festive Gift Set, perfect for the makeup lover and girlie girl, it most defiantly has the fun factor that’s for sure.  I cannot imagine anyone not being impressed when opening the eye catching packaging on Christmas Day, you almost feel like you want to put the set out on display its so adorable.  The Chocolate Shop Gift set is one of several Too Faced Christmas 2016 gift sets, some being exclusive to certain stores and all with various price points.

I was a little concerned it would be all packaging and not much substance inside but I didn’t need to worry as most of the products themselves performed surprisingly well on me.  Some shades such as Cookie Dough, Banana Date, Raspberry Rose and Guilt Free were a little disappointing, and whilst the metallics are the clear winners of this palette there are so many other shades to work with, plus the travel size Too Faced favourites are a great addition that I do feel this set is great value for money at $58.

New York Dreaming:  There seems to be a New York Christmas theme going on on my blog at the moment but this one really makes me want to throw on a pair of skates and head to the Rockefeller Centre Ice Rink.  It really makes me miss New York, a place I have spent so much time and a city that is always close to my hear.  So maybe this gift set is a little nostalgic for me but it will certainly deliver a huge smile on any Christmas Morning receiver, its hard not to love it.  This set leaves you feeling festive, warm and eager to try as many products on one eye socket as you can possibly get away with.  Happy Christmas!
