Kicking off a new Category on my Blog and YouTube Channel, where I’ll be sharing my favourite ‘Seasonal Style’ picks.
With Summer approaching and those longer, lighter and warmer evenings ahead. I thought now would be the perfect time to pick up some new additions to my Summer wardrobe. Items that will take me from tapas by the beach to an evening cocktail bar in town, and this Hawaiian Skirt is just perfect.
It will come as no surprise if you follow me on Instagram that I have a little bit of an obsession with pleated skirts. I have worn them for so long but over the past couple of years they have become really popular. This makes me very happy as now there is so much choice and varieties around in so many clothing stores with all different budgets. Being pretty short (at 5ft 2in) and heading towards the big 40 next year, I tend to favour midi length (I think long gone are my mini length days), although being on the short size ‘midi length’ more often than not ends up between midi and maxi on me.
This particular Hawaiian Floral Skirt from ASOS caught my eye as soon as I saw in online and it was in my shopping bag about 2 minutes later. It is also now available in Petite. I just love the colour tone of this skirt, its so beautiful for the Summer months. The material is satin and it feels so soft. light and floaty. Sometimes with lighter coloured skirts they can be a little see-through, and even though this skirt is unlined I found it to be absolutely fine in that department. It has a zip fastening and I would say its true to size in fit.
At £35.00 I also think it looks a lot more expensive than it is. This type of material means the pleats fall heavier despite the light fabric, so it holds its shape well and it doesn’t crease very easily either.
I find pleated skirts to be so versatile and as such, I get so much wear out of them. You can dress them up with a pair of heels, dress them down with a pair of sandals. They work each Season too just by changing the top – from a polo neck or jumper and leather jacket in the cooler months, to a t-shirt, blouse or vest top in the warmer Seasons.
With this particular skirt there are quite a few colours that will work so well – from whites and creams, to greys and blacks for more of a contrast. Beige, peach and brown tones also work well, as does terracotta and rose gold. You could really dress this skirt up for a wedding, a day at the races, or another Summer special occasion by adding a fascinator and a more dressy top with matching clutch bag. Whilst wearing this more as a day-to-day skirt by dressing it down with a simple vest top and a pair of sandals and a large straw tote. I absolutely love it!
