Salty Hair and Sandy Toes = my kind of Summer.
And whilst this Summer may be a little different to your usual Summer, thanks to a certain pandemic. Enjoying these hot days and long, light, warm evenings is something to really cherish. Especially as before we know it, that good old Jack Frost will be visiting again.
With lockdown, our hair has become an area where we have suddenly been left on our own. When salons closed….haircuts, highlights, blow drys and all the wonderful products our hairdressers use to regularly rescue our hair were suddenly unavailable. More of us are now looking at ways to take care of hair by ourselves having been cut off from our beloved hairdressers, and maybe also in preparation of another potential lockdown. I know I haven’t seen a hairdresser for longest period, probably ever, and my hair is in all sorts of needs and help. So (very) thankfully step forward Scrub Haircare.
I had been sent two bottles from the Shrub Haircare range from Sparkle PR to try and both bottles have been getting quite a lot of use. After several weeks, they have also both become wonderful additions to my new haircare routine. Lets take a look a little closer.
SHRUB HAIRCARE – THE BRAND
Shrub are a haircare brand inspired by the British Countryside. With honest ingredients and ethical and sustainable sourcing being at the heart of this vegan brand. I personally love and appreciate that you aren’t adding lots of nasty chemicals to your hair by using their products. Instead they pride themselves on no synthetic fragrance, no PEGS, no silicones, no EDTA, no micro plastics and no liquid plastics. I love that these products are kind to the oceans, more brands need to follow in Shrubs footsteps in my opinion.
I accidentally sprayed their Sea Salt Texturising Spray straight into my eye one weary morning and my eye didn’t sting nor was there any irritation that you would normally expect by doing something like that. Obviously you are supposed to avoid contact with eyes (but its handy to know if you are as clumsy as myself). The brand is now available at Boots and also online at BeautyBay. Their bottles are generously sized and include: Heat Protection Spray, Curl Defining Cream, Prepare and Protect Hair Primer, Sea Salt Texturising Spray, Instant Detangling Spray, Texturising Clay Putty and a Botanical Wonder Oil.
SHRUB SEA SALT TEXTURISING SPRAY
Firstly anything with Sea Salt in has me sold. I absolutely adore the scent, it smells of Summer and it is divine. That beautiful fresh, light, airy, coastal scent. I actually just like spraying my hair with this because the scent is so gorgeous, but the product itself is also very very good. My hair lacks volume, so the Shrub Sea Salt Texturising Spray is great for helping to add that much needed volume and bit of ‘oomph’ to my hair. This is a great product for helping to achieve and then hold those beach waves to your hair.
HERE’S HOW I LIKE TO APPLY THIS PRODUCT
After washing my hair, in the Summer I have been letting my hair dry naturally. As its drying I apply this Texturising Spray sparingly to the middle and ends of my hair, scrunching the hair with my fingers as I do. Once my hair is completely dry, I repeat layering the spraying with scrunching and loose beach waves are achieved. My hair isn’t naturally curly, in fact its very very straight, so I prefer to apply this product when my hair is damp and then again when dry to achieve my desired waves as it needs that extra help.
I love that I don’t need to use styling tools, add heat to my hair and it’s really easy and carefree to achieve this look. I also found the product left my hair still feeling soft. I have used texturising sprays before that have left my hair hard and almost crunchy to touch if that makes sense. The product wasn’t sticky or very tacky which some texturising sprays can be as well.
If you are blessed with a more natural curl, then you can apply this product to dry hair and scrunch with your fingers til you achieve your desired look, gradually layering the product whilst scrunching as you go.
If you are just looking to add a bit of texture to your hair, then applying whilst damp and then blow drying should help to achieve a more textured look and feel to your hair too.
SHRUB INSTANT DETANGLING SPRAY
If you suffer from knotty hair…..step forward myself. Then this is a fabulous product to add to your haircare. When my hair has just been coloured this will be a must have because my hair becomes a tangled maze. I love that you don’t need to use a lot of this product either so it will last for some time. Spraying over the middle to ends of my hair allows me to glide my tangle-teezer through with relative ease. My hair feels smoother with it too.
I’ve also used this on my daughter as she has thick curly hair, and she now requests it because there’s no sad faces when Mummy is trying to get the brush through her hair, especially if we have been out in the wind with our hair down. We have tried a few products before but I never want anything with nasty chemicals in. At least with this product you know you aren’t adding any nasties to your hair.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
I’m really impressed with the two products I have tried so far. The detangling spray will come into its own once my hair is back to being highlighted again and its a great one to have to hand. I really love the Texturising Spray too. Its so nice to have light beach waves for a change, especially at this time of year and the fact that this spray does the hard work with minimal effort from me is absolutely wonderful. I like how the products don’t leave my hair dry or sticky. There’s no over powering fragrance and I really like their packaging as well.
